Ouput from Scanner to iMAC computer is all vertical black lines. Scanning at printer (copying) produces same result. Printing from computer works fine. Tried resetting printer. Also tried redownloading printer software. Same result.

Worked fine until a few weeks ago.

Hi @Louise13,

Good Day.  A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the post regarding issues with scanning and copying from your HP printer using the copy button. I will be delighted to assist you here.

Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

  • Does copying in black and color produce the same results?
  • Have you bypassed power strips and connected the printer directly to the wall outlet?

It certainly looks like a hardware issue with the printer as copying also failed.

  • Please connect the printer directly to the wall outlet.
  • Please make a couple of copies each from the flatbed and also the ADF without any communication from the computer to check if both have the same problem.
  • Please try to perform all the steps from this document for troubleshooting copy-related issues.
  • Then try to perform the steps from the document mentioned above.
  • A workaround would be to use either the feeder or the flatbed if one of these copies correctly without hassles.

If it still does not work, please contact HP technical support via this link:  http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/?openCLC=true

(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.

(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.

(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.

(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you.

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care now and have a superb week ahead. 🙂
