Taking the printhead out, removing the cartridges, cleaning with a Q-Tip and paper towel has me up and going again.  Thanks for posting!

Hi all

A few months ago the printer stopped printing black and I tried cleaning the mesh with a damp tissue and it solved the problem.

Now I had the same problem, I cleaned the mesh 3 times I went to tools>clean cartridges like 6 times, and nothing would work. This time I moved the lever next to the cartridges and removed the printer head. It was full of blobs of dry ink, I cleaned it with a damp tissue, trying to get into the small turns and corners. I left it for a few minutes to dry, then aligned the cartridges and voila, I have a working printer.

Thanks everyone for the tips.

Beautiful!  This totally worked.  You really have to be patient and let it dry out before installing the print head back in.  What a mess the printhead was.  Thanks so much!!!!

I have tried all the suggestions and nothing has worked. It should not be this difficult to use a printer. You almost have to be a computer tech to change the cartridges and get it to print. This printer is beyond frustrating. The XL black cartridge does not click in easily like the others. I give up and will be buying another printer. I am done with HP.

I've only had one problem with my 7510 and that occurred when I last changed my black cartridge. No problem in getting it to fit properly; it just wouldn't print. Another blogger had suggested removing the print head and cleaning with a damp paper towel. The print head removed easily and by using the paper towel AND a Q-TIP, I was able to clean it well. The whole process took less than 10 minutes. It's worked perfectly since.

I had the same problem with not printing black, and used the cleaning methods described.  I still could not get it to work.

I finally shut it off. Several days later, I turned it back on and tried to copy something and it worked.  So I left it on and tried to copy something the following day, and it would not work.

I have been shutting it off all the time now and only turn it on for copying things. it has been working every time.

This is not ideal as I can't print from the computer unless I turn it on, which is not convenient. I do not know why this works this way.  Perhaps the ink is drying if I leave it on.

Hi RaySu,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I would also make sure that you are using genuine HP ink cartridges, and that the printer's power cable is plugged directly into the wall outlet, and not a surge protector. See this article, Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.

If that does not solve your problem, please call our phone support at 800-474-6836 to get your printer serviced. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region. Country-language selector.

Best of luck! Smiley Happy

I had changed the black ink cartridge (which was not empty) and still had the problem.  I have been using HP ink cartridges exclusively. I remove the print head and cleaned and dried it before reinstalling.

Also, the prnter used to be plugged in to a surge protector, but has not for several months. It still works, but only if I shut it off when I am done copying.

Yes! A lifesaver indeed! Followed the instructions, but it took four 'clean cartridge' attempts before it worked. I nearly gave up after the third! Thanks a lot.
