Now when I fax a document I get an error code of 388.
My fax machine contacts the receiving fax machine and starts to trasmit the fax, but after about 2 seconds the transmission stops and my machine prints out the following" "A communication error occurred during the fax transmission. Error 388*
This happens if I use the document feeder or the glass plate.
I decided to run the machine's FAX TEST. The result is the Fax Hardware Test is OK, with every test showing "PASS".
What could be wrong and what does the Error Code 388 mean?

This happened to me for a long time until I tweaked the advanced settings. Try these two things together: hopefully one will work. If successful with both tweaks at the same time, bump your speed back up and try it again.
Go to advanced fax settings. Reach this menu through the wrench icon on the panel.
Change the ECM mode to off. ECM stand for error correction mode, and it'll warn you that you can't turn it off if you send color faxes. An aside: Who sends color faxes anyway? Inquiring minds want to know.
Also: Change the speed from 33Kbps to 14Kbps. This slower speed can overcome line noise.
Good luck ! Also, not to start a new thread, but my c309 also freezes when I'm changing tasks on the machine - like going from printing to scanning or from printing to copying. Hopefully there's a software update for this at some point.
