I just got my printer last February (2017) and it just started to encounter these problems at the end of March. It's not printing properly unlike before. Sometimes the color for some images are mixed. When it's just pure black text, the printjob is incosistent wherein it prints the first page fine then at the last few pages you will see the text fading a way.

I am really confused on what is wrong because I've been using the HP software to clean the cartridges because that's what the instructions told me to do. But no matter how many times I've tried, the printjob is inconsistent.

As I understand you are having poor print quality issues on your HP DeskJet GT printer. Don't worry as I have a few steps to help you get through this concern,

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you made any changes on the printer before the issue started?

Are you using genuine HP ink cartridges?

Are you able to make a copy from the printer?

Have you checked for ink smears on the back of printouts?

Let's try these steps here:

Please make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.

Let’s first try and make a “photocopy” to determine whether the issue is with the printer or not. Place a document on the scanner glass and choose “Copy” option. If the printer is making a good copy, then the printer hardware is fine.

I would start by checking the installed printer software by downloading and running the HP Print and Scan Doctor. This tool can diagnose and fix many printing and printer software related issues. Please use this link to help you with that information: http://hp.care/2biN2XE

Here are the details you need:

1) Have you made any changes on the printer before the issue started?

    No

2)  Are you using genuine HP ink cartidges?

Yes, since it's an ink tank system, the ink comes from the bottles supplied.

3)  Are you able to make a copy from the printer?

    Yes

4) Have you checked for ink smears on the back of printouts?

Yes and I haven't found any ink smears.

I will wait for your reply then I'll follow your instructions. But please help me ASAP.

Hi @jdm_01,

Thank you for replying,

I appreciate your time and efforts,

As I understand you are using genuine HP ink cartridges and copy works fine, don't worry as I have a few other steps which should help to resolve this issue,

I would suggest you Print a Print Quality Diagnostic page - Step 7 from this link. If the reports comes up with some issues, I would suggest you clean the cartridges.

If the report prints OK. I would suggest the next step would be to uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13 ). Restart the PC

14 ). Now click on this link: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/DJ5820_Full_Webpack_108.exe and install the full feature software for this printer.

15 ). Connect the USB cable only when prompted.

Please do perform the steps I had suggested as well and get back to me with the results for further assistance.

Regards,
