Product: HP Officejet pro 6830
Operating System: macOS 10.12 Sierra

Replacement unit.  When I open the top to change ink cartridge, the printer head does not move to center to reach the cartridges.  Will not move by hand either.

Are there any error message on the printer?  The troubleshooting steps in the document here may help resolve a carriage jam on your Officejet 6830 printer.

Not a paper jam. The printer head does not move from the right to the center for loading ink cartridges when top is opened.

Are there any error messages?  Will the printer print or make copies?

 

The carriage is the part that holds the printhead and print cartridges.  The troubleshooting document I referenced above deal with the carriage jams, not paper jams.
