Hi @Skip0,

Good day.  Welcome to the HP support forums. I understand that the HP printer does not power on. I will be delighted to assist you here. 🙂

Fabulous description, superb troubleshooting and brilliant effort to fix the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂 You are a valued HP customer and it is paramount to assist you with it. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂

  • Did you bypass power strips and perform a hard reset on the printer?
  • Please let me know the complete model# or product# of the HP printer.

For a start please try these steps.

First, bypass power stripes and connect the printer directly to the wall outlet.

Then perform a hard reset on the printer from this link and follow only the option "Step 1: Reset the printer" Then try to power on the printer.

If it still does not work, then please contact HP phone support to get the printer replaced.

Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect

Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone number, Case number and phone number appear.

They will be happy to assist you immediately. If the unit is under warranty repair services is taken care of by the manufacturer’s warranty

Hi @Skip0,

Thank you for replying,

I appreciate your time and efforts,

As I understand you have a switching power supply, just wanted to check with you if you have connected the power cord directly to the wall outlet.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

If you have followed the steps suggested in the previous post and still having the issue with the printer not turning on, I would suggest this could be a printer hardware. I would recommend you contact our HP phone support for available service related options. If your product is out of warranty, please choose paid options to get the tech support number.

Please use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:

Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect

Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone numberCase number and phone number appear.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

Keep me posted for any other assistance,

I'm able to power the printer again. Unplugging it from the wall plug did the trick. Now when I try to print the black cartridge still will not work. This is the cartridge on the end (564 XL black). I have cleaned the print head as per HP instructions so now not only does the black not work, the printer is smearing a wide black stripe on the paper. I guess the cleaning just made a mess of things inside. I'm afraid to purchase another print head as it might not cure the smearing problem. I might have to abandon my investment and replace the printer. Any comments?
