My printer seems to be working in all respects but black ink cartridge does not engage and though the printer functions, there is nothing on the page. Color printing remains fine and working.  Any suggestion as to why this is and how to resolve the issue. Thank you.

Hi! @MAWZU, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand your printer is not printing in black.

Don't worry I'd like to help you out.

Did you make changes to your printer?

Did you replace ink cartridges on your printer?

Please provide the product number of your printer to assist you better.

Clean the printhead automatically
Follow these steps to run an automatic utility to clean the printhead.
   CAUTION:
Never turn off the printer when ink cartridges are missing. Make sure you replace any missing ink cartridges as soon as possible to avoid print quality issues and possible extra ink usage or damage to the ink system. To avoid issues that require cleaning the printhead, always turn the printer off with the Power button on the printer itself.
Load plain, white paper into the paper tray.
On the printer control panel, press the down arrow to select Settings, and then press OK.
Press the down arrow to select Tools, and then press OK.
Press the down arrow to select Clean Printhead, and then press OK.
The printer cleans the printhead and then prints a test page.
Review the print quality on the test page.
If these steps resolved the issue, there is no need to continue troubleshooting.

Let me know how it goes!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂
