Hi derrylahan,

Let's first determine if any black ink is coming out of your printer.

This document describes how to check ink levels and how to print an alignment page.  You should verify you have black ink in your cartridge and you should see black printing on the alignment page.

http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-deskjet-1510-all-in-one-printer-series/5157551/document/c0380...

If you don't see any black ink on the page you should do a cartridge cleaning.

If you still have no black ink you may need to replace the ink cartridge.

Let me know how the printer performs on these alignment pages.  If black ink is printing fine on that page it indicates a problem with the driver selection or settings.

Thanks Jean,

Dumb me.  Since grey scale pictures printed and no ink message or signal was received I had not checked the black cartridge.

It was empty so I'm good to go.

Cheers,

Eamonn
