Problem importing photos SD card not reading

HP Recommended
Officejet 5746
macOS 10.12 Sierra

Recently had to reinstall printer software to correct a problem. Now when I put my camera card into the SD slot it is no longer being read and I can't select it or import the photos from the card. Previously I would open Photos app and put the card in and it would ask if I wanted to import. Now the card doesn't even show up anywhere in finder to select it to import. Can anyone help?

thank you!

Hello, @Cynthie – Hope you are well 🙂

Thank you for becoming an HP Forum member. It is a great location to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!

I understand that you are having issues while using the SD card on your Officejet printer. First off, I do not think the issue is related to the removal of the printer software. Try using a different SD card and see if that is recognized.

Also, try to perform a power drain on the PC and then try inserting the SD card:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Good luck 🙂
