I am trying to add a 4050tn printer to my home network (NOT an It professional). The printer is shared on an XP computer. I have two laptops (W7-64 home) that are connected wirelessly to the same switch the XP machine & printer are on. I followed the directions in the first reply (Add local printer / add port etc). When I "Enter a port name:" I use this name \\DEBS_INSPIRON\Debs_Printer. when I do I get an error "The network name cannot be found." I can "see" the shared printer via windows explorer. Is there something wrong with the printer or computer name?

What worked for me for "4050N" is:
1. Do the Windows update to get the full list
2. Select the Laserjet "4050 Series PS"
This is with LPT01 as a port as it's still using the old serial printer cable. No USB.

Can not get my HP LaserJet 4050 to print.... new Windows 7 -64 desk top....
Have USB into the desk top.... only trying for local installation.
Only time I get a print is after reboot.... and at sign in.... then it prints what was stuck in the print q.... prior to reboot.
Any boby have an idea to help?
