I was wondering this, too, but in reference to another model: Photosmart C4280.
To make this question more generally applicable, can you tell us about how far back driver support will be extended for the various printer/all-in-one models for OS X 10.6? The reason I ask is that when I upgraded from 10.4 to 10.5, I could no longer scan with my previous model all-in-one and the support person who replied to my email inquiry said no new driver was planned for the model I had, so I had to buy a new one.

Again, Thank you so very much for all the time you took out of your busy schedule to let us all know about the update. Yesterday, I went to see the gentleman where I'm purchasing my new computer. I was telling him how much Iove the HP Officejet Pro Wireless All-in-one and was waiting on when the new driver would be available. So that's great news!

Actually, with the released version of 10.6, there will be nothing else you'll need to download to print, scan of fax. It is all included in OS.
The following doc will walk you though the process of setting up and using your 8500 in 10.6.
