I am having the same problem with getting the "Incompatible Ink Cartridge" error.  I have never used refilled cartridges in this printer and have only used the correct HP cartridges.  The printer rejected this black cartridge the first time I put it in.  I cleaned contacts, unplugged and replugged, etc.  My son reset the printer somehow, and it bagan working.  It worked for several documents and has now started getting the "Incompatible Ink Cartridge error again on the same cartridge that did not work, then did work, then did not work.  I have reset the printer but am still getting the error.  (Why can't HP just sell a printer that works and cut out all the "smart" stuff that only causes problems?)
