I've been having the same problem with a HP OfficeJet 5740. Color cartridge has the same issue: cartridge is empty or damaged.  This is really strange because  this is a HP cartridge from the HP home delivery plan.  Others spoke of the cartridge being under warrenty. I've never heard of such a thing. It's my Mothers printer and  she received the cartridge in January-Feburary (after I had to go and purchase ink before Christmas). The date on the cartridge is 6/16.

I cannot even find a place to contact HP about the  no cartridge problem. They just keep charging her $6 a month with no ink.  I'm ready to say that HP has sunk to lows of the Brothers, Lexmark and others. As long as you keep re-newing your warranty and insisting you buy their brand ink, I might as well buy an any name printer.

Is this from the Instant Ink subscription program?  If so I would suggest contacting the Instant Ink support folks at https://instantink.hpconnected.com.
