I have the exact same problem: HP m1217nfw MFP - the scan option does not show up after upgrading to OS Sierra 10.12.  I tried all the things suggested in this post and cannot get the scan back. Please advise.

Hi,

Be sure to install the latest firmware below and check for any difference, please use a 2 meter (6 foot) USB High speed (2.0) cable and do not update the firmware through the network:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL32626/bi-95171-11/LJM1130_M1210_FW_Upgrade-20150405.dmg

Once you are done reboot your Mac and try scanning again.

If you experience further issues try scanning using HP Easy Scan below, it will be installed within the Applications folder:

Shlomi
