This is very odd.  I've had my HP 8600 Officejet pro for several years and have replaced MANY cartridges.  I always buy new, in box, sealed genuine HP cartridges from either Staples or an Amazon supplier I've worked with previously without any problems. 

Today, I ran into the exact same problem - also with a yellow cartridge (951XL) with a warranty end of 2018/12.  (It's telling me it's incompatible and not intended for use in this printer).  

I tried the reset suggested and am still having the problem.  What do I do next?  How do I claim the warranty?  Thank you.

Welcome to the HP Forum! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips!

 

I see that you are having difficulty with the yellow cartridge that you have replaced. Have you tried all the steps listed here: http://hp.care/2pFPdiP

 

If the issue persists, please contact the HP phone support to get the cartridge replaced.

 

HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/?openCLC=true

(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.

(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.

(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.

(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
