@RB19

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Officejet Pro 8500A printer. I understand that you are getting paper mismatch error message and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well,

Reset the printer.

Adjust the paper size setting.

  • In the program you want to print from, click File, and then click Print.
  • Select your printer from the Printer drop-down list.
  • Click Page Setup, and then click Paper Size.
  • Select the paper size that matches the size and type of paper loaded in the printer tray, and then click OK. If there are no matching paper sizes, select the size from the list that is closest to the size of the paper loaded in the tray.
  • Try to print.

Click here and refer step 1 in the document to perform above troubleshooting steps.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers.

I tried all of these with the exception of 5. I couldn't find the firmware option on that webpage.

Hello, @RB19

I see that you were interacting with @sandytechy20. I'd like to jump in with a suggestion 🙂

To assist you with this issue, I need to know whether the printer can make a "Photocopy" or not.

Place a document face down on the scanner glass and press the copy option on the printer control panel. Let me know if it makes a good copy or not.

If the copy comes out fine, then try the steps below:

·         First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.

·         Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.

·         Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.

·         Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.

·         Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.

·         Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

·         Restart your computer.

·         Now click http://hp.care/2rDSOfj to install the software.

·         Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Good luck 🙂
