There appears to be a bug in the HP Officejet Pro 8600 scan to secure email using authenticated SMTP and SSL/TLS.
In order to get your HP Officejet Pro 8600 to scan to secure email using SSL/TLS, make the first "Outgoing E-mail Profile" entry a dummy FIRST entry. The second, third, etc. "Outgoing E-mail Profiles" will all work. But the FIRST Profile never will.
I found this solution when I discovered I could not get my email credentials to work, but on my first try I got my wife's credentials (at the same ISP) working in a second profile.
So, I duplicated my credentials (except for the "Display Name"), and made a third "Outgoing E-mail Profile" on the HP8600. Instantly, the third scan to secure email Profile started working.
Don't forget to:
- Enter the correct "SMTP Server" - Enter the alternate, secure "SMTP port" (perhaps 587, as opposed to the standard SMTP port 25) - Check the box to enable "Always use secure connection (SSL/TLS)" - Check the box to enable "SMTP server requires authentication for outgoing e-mail messages" - Enter your correct "SMTP User ID" (email@example.com, or sometimes just the xxxxx before the ampersand) - Enter your correct "SMTP Password"
