SOLVED!!!!! hp photosmart 5510 & linux Ubuntu operating system

[ Edited ]

Is it possible to download the same software as available for Windows and Mac operating systems (supplied on the CD in the box) for an Ubuntu system? I want to scan with the 5510, but need to install additional software.

Install the latest HPLIP. Unplug the USB cable. Activate wireless printing on the printers touch screen and follow the instructions . Run HP-SETUP. Select "Wireless/802.11". Follow the instructions and your set to go.

For some reason if you use the USB connection and select "Universal Serial Bus (USB)" during the HP-STUP you get a Communication Error. But with Wireless every thing works like a charm.

Re: SOLVED!!!!! hp photosmart 5510 & linux Ubuntu operating system

I went through a couple of days of fiddling and finally, with your help, made the thing work.

  • It will print a document
  • copy a document
  • scan a doc to an SD memory card
  • BUT the only way to scan to a computer is to initiate the scan from Gimp. Is this normal? Should i not be able, from the 5510 control panel, to scan to the computer? I get an error: 'No computer found' plus advice to use the printer software to enable 'Print to Computer'. This software is on the Windows CD I imagine so where do I go from here?
  • I use Mint 11
