Product: Office Jet 6500 E-710n-z
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

HAve an older Office Jet printer which used to scan for me but quit. Shows communication error. I can still send to print on it over wireless. HAve tried troubleshooting the settings, but it still doesn't work. Says my firewalls may be the problem? Not sure how to address that or if I even should?

Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post. 

 

I understand that you get a communication error when you try to scan, is that right?

Not to worry, I will be glad to help. 

Are you able to make a copy on the printer? (Copier and Scanner use the same mechanism.)

The printer is configured through wireless, is that right?

 

Recommend you refer to this HP Article and try the steps suggested to resolve the issue you are facing.
