Hello, @Frankie19 – Hope you are well 🙂

Thanks for engaging in the HP Forums! I see by your post that you are experiencing issues while scanning using your Officejet 8600 printer. I will certainly do my best to help you!

I understand that you are getting ADF door open message while trying to scan. Did you try opening and closing the document feeder mechanism? It is very important to make sure the door is closed tightly on both left-hand side and right-hand side. If not tried already, open the ADF door and close the feeder applying force on both sides of the door. Please check the pic below for ref.

Once done, try a power drain to try and fix the issue completely:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Good luck 🙂

THX HP but still NG.

Window on laptop screen; "ADF misfeed occurred..reload and try again". Simultaneously,

Printer screen indicates "Feeder open".

Did just about everything including your suggestions..still NG.

Officejet 8600 always worked fine..just a few days ago..pfftt out of the blue.

Any more suggestions???

Hello, @Frankie19

Appreciate your efforts 🙂

Try cleaning the ADF feeder mechanism once. Go to http://hp.care/2d9cjYd and follow the steps listed under "step 2".

Restart the printer once done and check.

Let me know if that helps!

Cheers 🙂
