Scanning problem with ENVY 5530

HP Recommended
ENVY 5530
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I start the scan from the computer. The scanner then starts the scan procedure, but after a while it stops. Message on printer screen is "scanning" and a rotating circle. It will not recover. I tried also to start the scan from the scanner. The scanner is activated in the computer. Same thing happen - scan starts and after sort of one pass it just stops and will not continue.

The software is updated to the latest version. I have tried HP print and scan doctor - same result - in the test procedure it starts the scan and than stops and just sits and does nothing. I had to kill the application. It is not possible to do abort ot close.

I have also tried to make the printer powerless and restart it and the same with the PC.  Does not help. The printer is one year old. The problem has occured occasionally in the past and then pulling the power plug and restart has helped - but now totally stuck.

What to do?

Hi @karltorbjornj,

Welcome to the HP community,

I understand you are having trouble scanning on your HP ENVY 5530. I will be happy to help.

Can you successfully make a copy?

If your printer can make a copy, it is definitely a software issue
If your printer can't make a copy, it is a hardware issue.

Here are some steps I will recommend trying, please get back to me with the results.

1. Uninstall the printer software.

2. Run a disk clean up, and clear the temporary folder. Here is a link with instructions: Delete files using Disk Cleanup
3. Restart your computer.

4. Reinstall software using the HP Printer Install Wizard

I hope this helps.

It is not possible to make a copy either. It is doing the same as when I am scanning. It is doing one pass over the surface and then stops and notihing more happens. I suspect it is something with the hardware.

Hi @karltorbjornj,

If you cannot make a copy from the control panel of the printer then it sounds like a hardware issue, so you will have to contact HP phone support for further assistance.

Contact HP:

Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click on: HP contact options - click on Get phone number
Case number and phone number appear

Best of luck with your printer.
