I bought a pair of cartridges, 302XL. the TRICOLOR ONE WORKS FINE. but the black one doesn't. Some lines it can print them normally. But only like 2 lines per page. The rest is smudged and messy. I think it's a coordination problem, since I can see that it can print properly text in few lines. I can't make it coordinate, I tried realigning it and cleaning but it won't do. And its not a problem of compatibility cause the TRICOLOR ONE is normal.

Hello, @Albatrausse – Hope you are well 🙂

Welcome to the HP Forum! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips!

Going through your post, I see that you are having issues with the black cartridge on your HP Envy printer. Did you print an alignment sheet after replacing the cartridge? Ideally the cartridge alignment will be performed automatically after replacing the cartridges. Did your printer print an alignment sheet and was that successful?

If not, first try to clean the cartridge and then try to align the printer again. Here are the steps:

  1. Make sure to load the input tray with plain, white paper.

  2. On the printer control panel, swipe the display to the left, then touch Setup.

  3. Touch Tools, then touch Clean Cartridges.

The printer prints a Print Quality Diagnostic report.

  4. Examine the print quality on the Print Quality Diagnostic report.

  5. If the print quality is acceptable, click No. You can stop troubleshooting.

  6. If the print quality is unacceptable, click Yes when prompted to perform the next level of cleaning.

Now, again go to Setup - Tool and then try to align the printer and check.

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

Good luck 🙂

Hello, thanks for the prompt reply. yes I've already done that. but I did it again, I printed the quality report and still the result is this: some lines of text are normal, scattered thought the page, eg bullet points 1, 4 and 7 are normal, but the rest, only the parts that are printed by the black cartridge are smudged and I can't even read the bulletpoints in between

Hello, @Albatrausse

This looks like an issue with the black cartridge. Do you have an alternate black cartridge to test this? If so, please try and use a different black cartridge and check.

If the printer works fine after using a different cartridge, then please contact the HP phone support to get the cartridge serviced or replaced.

HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/?openCLC=true

(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.

(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.

(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.

(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

I hope that answers your concern adequately. Let me know!

Cheers 🙂
