Trouble connecting a C4780 wirelessly

HP Recommended
Printer C4780
macOS 10.12 Sierra

I cannot connect my C4780 printer wirelessly.

I have tried using WPS but the printer just comes back WPS error (the WPS button on the router has worked well with other devices just not the printer).

I have also tried to set it up using the printer utility on my MAC. I have followed the instructions given here https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04825413 but do not get the wireless setup  option appearing on the utility.

Can you help?

Hello, @Jane800 – Hope you are well 🙂

Allow me to welcome to HP Support Forums! It is a great platform to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!

I see that you are facing issues while connecting your Photosmart C4780 printer to the network using your MAC Sierra.

The reason that you are unable to convert the USB connected printer to the network as suggested in the HP document is because you need the full feature printer driver to perform this action. We do not have the MAC 10.12 printer full feature drivers for your printer since this is an older model printer.

I would recommend using a Windows PC which is on the same network as your MAC. We do have the full feature drivers for Windows and we can easily convert the USB printer to the network using the Windows PC. Once the printer is on the network, then we can install the printer to your MAC using the inbuilt printer drivers.

I hope that answers your concern adequately. Let me know!

Good luck 🙂
