Unable to Flash Firmware on Office Jet Pro L7780

I currently have version R2006PxN, and just downloaded R2011PxN.

 

When I run the executable, after a short delay I get a window that says:

 

Status: Failed

Description: Network Printer is not ready for flashing. Please check the printer status from either UG, Toolbox or EWS.

 

I just flashed up to the 2006PxN level a couple of months ago, and had no problems.  Nothing has changed on my system / network.

I've tried over wireless and the wired connection.  All other printer functions work fine.  Nothing shows up in printer status.

 

Is something wrong with this new firmware?

Has anyone else had this issue?

 

Any help would be appreciated.

Do you see any error messages on the printer display? Is the printer frozen/unresponsive?
I am an ex-HP Employee. Currently inactive on the forum.

No errror messages what-so-ever.

I've power cycled the printer, rebooted my PC, and restarted my entire network.

There are no other issues.  All functions of the pronter work normally, and there are no error messages anywhere.

 

The upgrade executable just keeps doing the same thing.

Can you try plugging in the USB cable temporarily and then doing the update?

And yes, I have upgraded the firmware for few of my customers successfully.
I am an ex-HP Employee. Currently inactive on the forum.

Okay, I freshly rebooted my network, PC and printer.

 

Next I turned off the wireless radio in the printer and attached a USB cable to the printer and PC.

 

The PC automatically installed the USB device.

I looked in the printers folder (from control panel), and saw the original printer, and a new one (copy 1)

I opened the properties for the new printer entry, and saw the new ports installed:

 

Port      Description  Printer           Printer
USB001    Virtual Printer Port for USB
DOT4_001  Office Jet L7700 Printer       HP Officejet Pro L7700 Series (Copy 1)

 

I even ran a test page -- all is fine (so far).

 

So next I run the flash executable:

 

 

 

So, I figured it may be being confused by two entries for the same printer, so I delete my first printer entry, along with the ports associated with it.

I reboot the whole business (PC and Printer), and get the same results.

 

I've disconnect the USB, turned the WiFi radio in the printer back on, and reverted my system via GoBack to the way it was before trying this mess.

 

I think what's telling here is that I tried this from another seperate PC, my laptop from work, and I've gotten exactly the same results in all cases.

These machines are Windows XP, SP3.

 

I've downloaded th flash executable twice, from two separate locations where I have internet access.  Same file, same results

 

Now, where should I go from here?

p.s.  When I asked above if anyone successfully flashed the firmware before, I meant this new version, R2011PxN.

I too have successfully flashed previous versions, on my identical setup.

Initiated the HP email support.  Rep replied with a link to the firmware download.  Huh?

 

Explained the problem in detail, rep referred me to the 800 number. 30 minutes on hold, provided the support ticket number, and phone rep said it had no information.  Tried to refer rep to here, for summary of issue, but rep said she could not look at this.

 

Okay, so I painstakingly describe the issue.  Answer: power cycle printer.  Been there done that.  Do it again anyway.

Of coarse it makes no difference.  Rep puts me on hold.  5 minutes ... click, disconnected. Nice.

 

Service ticket # 8025571614

 

Be nice if some support was available.
