Unable to print black with depleted color cartridge

Does HP realize that from a customer perspective it makes no sense that I need a color cartridge to print just black?  The fact that there may be value from an engineering perspective does not provide me comfort as a user and implies that HP is divorced from (or does not care) about the customer experience.

You seem to be confirming that HP does not eally care about the customer perspective and may be implying other manufacturer's do not as well, so it is okay.  That seems odd to me.
