HP DeskJet 3054 J610a
Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite

I just arrive at summer place in NY. I hooked up my 3054 printer -it is wireless and can use usb plug. I used a usb plug direc to computer-Macbook Pro. I bought 61 Xl cartridge because of greater printer output. My black show 1/2 full-I have used in Fl with no problem. It now says that my tri-clolor cartridge is not compatible with printer. I could handle if it says it was empty but it was put in at same time as black which is 1/2 full so it should be 1/2 full. I pd 37.00 for this cartridge and cannot figure why after using it for an entire season in fl it now says it is not compatible. Do I give up and buy another product-not HP-?

Hello, @Sharonsoco – Hope you are well 🙂

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!  It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel!

I understand that you are getting issues with the color cartridge after moving from Florida to NewYork. To assist you with this issue, I need to know few more details:

1) Were you using the same printer in FL or did you simply bought the cartridges with you when you came to NY?

2) Was the cartridges outside your printer while you were moving? If so, how long was it outside the printer?

3) What is the ink level on the tri-color cartridge? Please check the "Printer utility" (Printer software installed on your MAC) and check the correct ink level.

Alternatively, let’s first try to perform a power drain to fix the issue. Here are the steps:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Now, let’s try making a copy to further isolate the issue. Place a document face down on the scanner glass and press the copy option on the printer control panel. Let me know if it makes a good copy or not.

If the copy also is not working, then go to http://hp.care/2pT6vug and follow the steps listed here and let me know the results.

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

Good luck 🙂
