So far Barry, the only solution we seem to have is to replace a good working printer with a new one.  I would advice after this experience not to make the new printer an HP device.  I also run the 64 bit version of Windows 7.  My computer crashed and I bought a new computer with windows 7.  If I knew that it would have more problems than the Vista I would have looked for one with Vista....HP and Microsoft need to get their act together....I hear Mac makes an excellent computer...

I seem to find the perfect cure.  I replaced my HP printer with a new canon printer.  I will not be buying any more hp products if they cant seem to support them....

I googled the tricks to connect to HP Laser Jet 1000 from Windows 7, they said if we connect through network I should be OK.

When I select the Add a network printer, I found the printers on the network, but when I tried to connect to the printer it says "No driver found, Windows can't find a driver for hp LaserJet 1000 on the network. To locate one manually, click OK. Otherwise click cancel and consult to your network administrator or the printer's manufacturer website"

I asked the network administrator, he said that somecomputers in the office (Windows 7/Vista/XP) can connect to the laserjet using that method, and they don't need drivers. He also said that maybe your OS (Windows 7) is not the full version/not completed. I used the Windows 7 Home Basic.

However, I tried to connect using the local port and it also can't work.

Also I tried using the Konica Minolta drivers also can't work.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I am so sick of hearing admins telling people that they don't have a "full install" or a partial install.  If it's a partial install, NOTHING WORKS! No Windows, no desktop, no worky!  Anyway, I digress, It sounds like there are no Windows 7 Drivers, There are Vista drivers that can be made to work but the printer is not officially supported.  I don't like it, but there is nothing I can do about it.  Will my next printer be an HP? 100% YES!!  They have some of the worst software, but their printers are the most rugged, durable, reliable, and supportable (in general, there are exceptions).

For the fellow that spoke about mac.  If you think you have driver problems now, HA!  You want to replace your video card in a mac, you go to the store, buy the $120 card and bring it home, then you find out that it's not compatible!  Bring it back to the store, you get to pay $300 to get a card that will work!

YAY!!!!! :smileyhappy::smileyhappy::smileyhappy:

I have just down loaded the Windows XPdriver from the following link and now have my laserjet hp 1000 working perfectly on my windows 7 Professional version 6.1 32 bit PC.

click on this link

then click on hp laserjet host based driver and save to a file somewhere on your c drive

then right click on the hp printer icon in your printers icon folder and update driver by selecting have disc, go to the file you saved

Click Open and then Okay and let the files install.

worked a dream for me and i was seriously considering selling the hp1000.

Good Luck and all the best

Gentlemen -

Kudos to all of you that have tried so long and hard to solve this issue with Win 7/64 operating system software and the HP Laserjet 1000.

My cut on this is HP doesn't want to, and will not, fix this problem.  Apparently, the HP decision maker(s) feel it will not add to the bottom line. I agree with them for short term gain, but in the long term I think their selfish decision will sell a certain number of printers for the HP competition.  I own several HP printers including the LJ 1000, which is the best by far. Not sure I will buy another in the near future.

Lastly, all the posts concerning Win7/32 in this forum are exciting reading, but have no bearing on the problem with the 64bit version of Win 7, which is the issue.  The issue is with Win 7/64 and not 7/32.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.

I have tried to install the driver by right clicking the printer error and pointing to 'update the driver' to the driver I downloaded... and when I pick the location to get the new driver, Windows (7) says the driver is not there.. or something like that... I can not even force it...  even though the files are expanded, and I can see the driver, windows still won't replace it...  I also have the original installation disk for the printer, and can get no where... it is frustrating, becasue this is such a  good printer, I hate to HAVE TO buy a new one, just because I got a new computer.  in all my years of upgrades and new computers, i never had an issue like this.. this is extremely flagrant and odd that BOTH companies do not offer a fix.

After working on this for a while, I've pieced together some solutions offered by other frustrated HP customers.  Below is a solution that will work for Windows 7 64-bit clients printing to a Windows 7 32-bit shared LaserJet 1000 printer:

On the 32bit Machine:

1.  Delete all instances of LaserJet 1000

2.  Download XP version of HP LaserJet 1000 Printing Software Solution at the following link:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=45675&pr...

3.  Extract the Printing Software Solution files to folder, e.g. c:\hp\lj1488

4.  Cancel the auto install.  Trust me, cancel the install.

5.  Navigate to the extracted files, sort by type and for every .exe file you will need to right click and set compatibility mode to Windows XP SP3.

6.  After setting all the .exe files to the correct compatibility mode run setup.exe.

7.  After successful install you will notice two printers.  One is the LaserJet 1000 and the other is the LaserJet 1000 DOS.  They are not read to print.  Need to fix driver issue on LaserJet 1000 in the next step.

8.  Download the XP version of the Host Based Driver at the same link above.

9.  Extract those files to folder, e.g. c:\hp\lj1000hb

10.  Go back to Printers and Devices and right click the LaserJet 1000 printer.  Update the driver to the host based driver.

11.  Now here is the crucial part, Right Click on LaserJet 1000 DOS printer.  Change the port from print to file to USB.

12.  Share the LaserJet 1000 DOS printer.

On the 64 bit Windows 7 machine trying to connect to the shared printer:

1.  Add a printer and choose local printer.

2.  Add a port, choose create a new port, choose local port

3.  Enter a port name.  The port name will be \\Computer Name\Share Printer Name, in this case use the LaserJet 1000 DOS printer

4.  Then choose the following driver when creating the printer:  HP LaserJet 1100 MS.  Works perfect with that DOS printer.

5.  Do a test print and give yourself a high five.

6.  Winning.

Good luck.
