copying issue
05-20-2017 10:13 PM

I have a HP Envy 4520 printer. It prints everything perfect, but when I try to copy something it makes a long, wide column of thin lines down the side. It does it if I copy in black or color. I have cleaned the glass, cleaned the cartridges, aligned the printer, cleaned page smears and nothing works.

Greetings @Jody44,
Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.
I understand that you are facing a copy quality issue on your printer.
Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.
Not to worry, I will be glad to help.
Have you tried to scan a document to your computer?
Are you placing a single sheet on the scanner glass to make a copy or a booklet/book to make a copy? (sometimes if you place a book there would be light penetrating into the glass which could create lines.)
Recommend you try the steps suggested in this HP Article. If the issue persists, please contact our phone support for the service options available for your printer.
Let me know how it goes.

Hi,
as @Chimney_83 is out of the office, I'm replying to you.
I appreciate your time and efforts towards troubleshooting the issue. The evidence indicates towards a scanning hardware issue. I'd like to mention that you made the correct choice of calling our HP phone support to explore the hardware service options.
Please feel free to keep us posted on any questions. Good luck and take care! 🙂
