document failed to print

I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus.  It's been working fine, and now suddenly, whenever I go to print something, using either my laptop or desktop, I get the error message that "document failed to print."  The only way I can get it to print is to power down the printer, restart it, and then print the document.  But, if I wait for a bit after doing this, the stop and restart, then it refuses to print the documents again.  My operating system is Windows XP.  Like I said, it's been working wonderfully, just started this two days ago.  I ran the HP Scan Doctor, said nothing was wrong.  Any suggestions?
