error 1327 on installation of c309g photosmart printer - 'invalid drive c:\'

Am running Windows XP SP3 and printer is connected via wired router

Have recently changed my HDD and reinstalled windows etc, original HDD is working but not connected

Original HDD letter was C: new HDD partitioned to I: J: & K:, with windows etc on K:

After installation of windows into new HDD, original HDD C:\ was briefly reconnected as slave to retrieve 'Favorites' folder and was then disconnected

When installing printer from CD, all went well until error message 'error 1327 Invalid drive C:\ - go to web support etc'

Printer software seems to uninstall completely and forces a re-boot but there are still a lot of HP entries in the registry

Went the web support pages and found error message which seemed to relate more to a letter error on the CD drive than the HDD but followed all the steps, copying the disc into the HDD, downloading the full drivers from the web etc but every time got exactly the same message

Final solution was to contact support technician to correct registry entries but this appears to cost £21 so keen to find a solution elsewhere

Can someone help please?

Re: error 1327 on installation of c309g photosmart printer - 'invalid drive c:\'

Hello sidsilver

The problem is that there is a problem with the the drive letters on your computer. Microsoft does not suggest you change the System drive to anything other than C:\ as many Windows programs make references to specific drive letters. This is part of the reason that the system drive cannot have its letter changed without re-installing the operating system. Change, add, or remove a drive letter (windows.microsoft.com)

At this point the best solution would be to re-install Windows on the machine and install to the C:\ drive/partition.

However, before re-installing Windows try the following:

  1. Open up Command prompt
  2. type: "subst C: K:\" without quotes and press enter.
  3. Restart and try re-installing again.

Re: error 1327 on installation of c309g photosmart printer - 'invalid drive c:\'

Many thanks for your reply but I'm afraid that I had already gone through all the solutions suggested in this error 1327 section getting exactly the same result each time, until I got to solution four - seek help from HP support agent. Are you a support agent who can provide that assistance? The solution 4 didn't have any links to such a support assisitant but when I search via Google the only likely website was hp.justanswer.com which was a chargeable service and didn't seem to be an HP based website

Hope you can help

Changed one of the other partitioned drive letters to C:\ and that solved it. Many thanks
