I know this thread is over 2 years old, but your advice about sticking some cardboard to the back of the cartridge has just saved me buying a new printer. Thank you!

I am having the same problem as well, with the added problem of a "Door Open" message.

Cleaning and reset the printer as suggested never worked. I used a small piece of cardboard about the width of the ink cartridge and inserted between the top of the ink catridge and the frame of the housing. Reset the printer by removing the power supply cord.

 

It solved my problem.

You are wonderful GG61! I had the same error message on my HP Photosmart C309g printer, using 564XL cartridges. I have spent hours on the phone over the last 2 nights to the HP 'support' desk, speaking to 4 different people. They told me I needed to purchase a new printhead or a new printer! I decided to Google the problem, found your solution, tried it and it has worked! That's despite it being a different printer and different cartridges. I'm rapt. Thank you so much!
