What printer model - there are some very different Deskjet 1000 models? What operating system? Do you have a 32 bit or 64 bit version? You can click here, enter your operating system then download the full featured driver.
If you have Windows 7 or Windows 8 you can use the driver install wizard at http://www.hp.com/go/tools.
