hp dj 3638 unresponsive, all lights blinking

HP Recommended
deskjet 3638
Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite

After unpacking and one failed installation attempt, all lights are blinking quickly and in the display is showing the E blinking. The buttons are not responding. Taking the power cord out on both ends for more the 3 minutes does not resolve this. Also, restarting the mac and router, no point. I seem unable to connect manually, with or without printer - cable. Help would be appreciated otherwise it is back to the store. 😞

Hello, @kudonogame - Hope you are well 🙂

Welcome to the HP Forum! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips!

I understand that your brand-new printer is not initializing correctly. Do not worry, I’d do my best to help 🙂

First off, is the printer setup correctly? Please follow the steps listed here to setup the printer hardware: http://hp.care/2pxPNiQ Follow the steps 1 – 3

Now, try making a copy and check if the copy works.  Place a document face down on the scanner glass and press the copy option on the printer control panel. Let me know if it makes a good copy or not.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Good luck 🙂
