Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums! After reading your post I see that you are unable to replace the cartridge on HP Officejet 6956 printer. I would like to help you out with this issue today.

Reset the printer.

  1. Press the Power button ( ) to turn off the printer.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  5. Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the printer.

Click here and follow the document to know how to replace the cartridge.

Let me know how it works.

Cheers.

Hey there, thanks for the response but no didn't work I had actually tried it already but tried in case I done something different.  When the ink access door open is it supposed to register on the screen that its open because it doesn't.  I did manage to take all the inks out and angle the new one in for the black under the right side plastic bit without tugging the head or anything had to hold the tounge the right way.  Obviously this isn't ideal and certainly wouldn't be able to do if bought the xl size black ink.

Thanks for the reply.

This seems to be a hardware issue.

I request you to contact HP Phone support for further assistance on this.
