Trying to download instructions via hp.com/eprint/dj2540 and keep getting error message. Using Samsung galaxy note 4 smartphone and Vodafone network and also wifi at home - still no joy. Don't have a cd/dvd disc drive and no computer so this is the only way I can download. How do I do this?
I see that you're looking to setup your HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One Printer on an Android device. I would like to help.
It is possible to complete the 2540 setup without a PC or Mac. Here's how:
Press the Wireless Direct (#4) button on your printer's front panel
Press and hold Start Copy Black (#5) and Cancel (#2) for a few seconds. The Network configuration page should print and it will list the wireless direct password.
Navigate to the Network settings on your Android device
Connect to HP-Print-2540 (your printer)
Open a web-browser and type this I.P. address into the address bar: 192.168.223.1
Press go/Enter; this should take you to your printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS).
Tap on the Network tab (it may be labelled Wireless). Then tap on Wireless Setup Wizard.
Select your Network Name (SSID) and enter the wireless password as prompted.
Your printer's wireless light will be lit up solid if the connection's successful. At that point reconnect to your WiFi with the Android device. From what I can determine from this HP article your printer's not compatible with Android's built-in Print Solution. However, you should be able to print via the HP ePrint app now that the printer's connected to your wireless network. Click here to install the HP ePrint app.
Let me know if this setup approach is successful. If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to say "You rock!" by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below and clicking to accept this solution.
