my phone line stopped working and when I called my provider she had me unplug the phone line from my printer/fax machine and plung int into my phone and it worked. She said the problem is not the phone line but the fax machine .  This happened last thursday. My printer works fine and has not problem i just cant fax now

As I understand you are having an issue with the phone line not working when connected to your HP printer. Don't worry as I have a few steps to help you get through this concern,

 

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

What is the product number of this computer? (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...) http://hp.care/2bygf7l

What is the Operating System installed on the PC? Windows or Mac

Have you checked the connections?

Have you tried running the fax setup wizard?

 

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

 

The fax feature requires a 2-wire phone cord to be used from the wall outlet to the 1-Line port on the back of the printer. If you are using a 4wire cord, then the 2-wire adapter goes on the end being plugged into the printer. 

 

Next thing, I would suggest here is to run the fax setup wizard and run the fax test.

 

Please respond to this post with the details and the results of the troubleshooting steps for further assistance.
