Microsoft Windows XP

The lamp in the bed of the officejet does not come on when lifting the lid, and it won't copy or scan. When I attempt to copy a document, the hp symbol shows on screen and says "starting copying," but does not copy. First time it malfunctioned, all lights flashing and message saying turn off and on printer. Tried this several times and made sure it was plugged into wall and unplugged for a minute before restarting. Then gave a message that it can't copy, fax, or scan. I still can print. I think it is the lamp, can it be replaced?

@Sue1233

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Officejet 6700 premium printer. I understand that scanner light is not lit up and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well,

Reset the printer again.

  • Unplug the printer power cable when it is turned on.
  • Press and hold the [power button for 60secs.
  • Connect the power cable to printer and directly to the wall outlet.
  • Turn on the printer.

If that does not work, I request you to contact HP Phone support for further assistance on this.

Let me know how to it goes.

Cheers.

Thank you for your assistance. I tried the unplugging, holding power button 60 sec, and replugging into wall. The light now glows a faint blue, but when hitting the copy button, screen just goes to hp logo and "staring copy," but it does not make the copy.  It is out of warranty, so I  would have to pay for phone support. Can the lamp be replaced? if not, I will just get a new machine.

Hi! @Sue1233, I am the MrRobot. It looks like you were interacting with @sandytechy20, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.

I appreciate your efforts for trying out the steps.

It certainly looks to be a hardware issue with the printer.

Please contact HP phone support and get the service options.
