officejet 8600 pro plus time zone issue

has anyone successfully set the time zone on the Officejet 8600 pro plus? There's a webpage for the device to setup the local date & time - it has a nebulous button to 'set the time zone to the same as you computer' or something like that.. I can't get it to work under Win7 IE or firefox - the printer seems to always be stuck in UTC. That means I have to set the printers local time to UTC to make the timestamps of email scans appear correct. Any ideas? It seems like older officejets had an option to explicitly set the time zone from the device's webpage but that's gone. BTW.. I've upgraded to the latest firmware (v CLP1CN1150CR - 15-feb-2012), but the problem persists.

You should be able to do that via the LCD panel from the printer.

Setup->Tools->Preferences

Setup is in second page after the home screen.

Click on the "Thumbs up"button on the bottom to say "Thanks"

officejet 8600 pro plus time zone issue

Hi,

I double checked the printer LCD setup. The date/time setup is under:

Setup -> Preferences -> Date and Time

unfortunately - there's no place under either Date and Time screens to set

the time zone. The only place I see where it can be modified is via the

printers embedded web server page. Unfortunately, I can't get that to work.

I've checked the 'Use the same time zone set on this computer' using Firefox

and IE8 on a Windows 7 machine as well as on a Mac w/ OSX 10.6.8 and

Safari v 5.1.5, w no luck. The problem manifests itself when I send an email

scan - they're timestamped with the correct time but with a 0 time zone offset,

i.e. appears like UTC. Since I'm in the US Central timezone, email clients

perceive the time as 6 hours earlier in my time zone - making the email

look 6 hours old when I receive it.

Exact same problem here.

There should be a drop down menu on the printers web interface to change this manually.

Is there a plan to fix this? Or a workaround to make this work until the update is available?

FYI.. I recently updated to firmware version CLP1CN1232AR but the problem still persists. It apparently is not a priority for HP to fix this. I can't believe that more people aren't affected by this - apparently not many people scan to email?

Hi Everyone,

You need to set the correct time, and then place the check mark in the use same time zone as this device before hitting the apply button. If you follow steps 1 to 3 your time will be set properly on the correct time zone.

I was sure I've tried those steps before, but I just did it again in the exact sequence you specified from a PC running firefox on Ubuntu and a Mac laptop running safari on MacOS 10.6.8 with the *same* result as before. I set the time to the correct local time (CST for me) and checked the 'use the same time zone set on this computer' box , then clicked apply. I then tried scanning 2 items to email - here's what came in the timestamp:

(after time update on Ubuntu)

***

Date: Tue, 13 Nov 2012 10:44:40 +0000

***

(after time update on MacOS)

****

Date: Tue, 13 Nov 2012 10:45:19 +0000

****

again - the time is *correct* the timezone stays at UTC i.e. +0000, so my email client interprets

this as 4:45AM CDT. Again - the timezone is *not* getting updated. Whoever is replying to this

from HP - please check by actually sending a scan to email before you reply that setting the

timezone via the embedded webpage works, because it doesn't. Also - there's no way (that

I'm aware) of getting the printer to report what its timezone setting is...
