About a week ago my HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus stopped responding to the power button.  Now the only way I can shut off the machine is by unplugging it.  The power button in front of the machine wont work anymore. Please help!

Sorry that you are having a problem with the power button.

This is a hardware issue. You will need to contact HP Support (1800-474-6836).

You can try to unplug the power cord from the back. Leave it out for 30 seconds and plug it back in and see if it works.

I have the same problem and unplugging it for a length of time doesn't fix it.

Hey Fbenal,

I understand from reading the post that you are having an issue with HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus stopped responding to the power.

Most times the power cord unplugged for 30 seconds will resolve this. I do see that you have done that with no fix.

Follow this document on a firmware issue that could resolve that.

My HP Officejet Pro 8600 n911a does't respond to the green power button.  The only way I can shut off the printer is by disconnecting the power cord.  Doing so doesn't resolve the issue with the power button.  In addition, the touch pad on the printer also doesn't respond.

I  followed the instructions in the link suggested to no avail;

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=bi-102210-4&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...

Is it a hardware issue?  Any other suggestions?

I have the same problem and the firmware update doesn't help. Any news on this?

Hi everyone,

I understand you're all working with an Officejet 8600 that's not responding to the power button. I will certainly do my best to assist you all.

Mrstenter had posted a firmware update that if you haven't done yet, it is definitely recommended. If that doesn't resolve your issue though, it could also be a power issue. Please make sure your printer is plugged directly to a wall outlet not a power strip or surge protector.

If after those two things the printer still won't respond to the power button, please call HP Tech Support for your area and inquire about an in warranty replacement or and out of warranty trade in.

Hope this helps, have a great day!!

Same issue.  Power button totally unresponsive.  Tried all tricks I found on forum.  Unplugging and plugging back in is the only way for it to print.  There should be a free fix for this seeing as how expensive they were.  Really close to losing a lifeling HP user.  What can be done about this?

The link listed is not active. What does plugging it into a wall outlet do?

This is the worst issue I have ever had with an HP product.  I am going to look for a new machine and it will not be HP.
