Photosmart C6180
Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)

A Photosmart C6180 printer that was given to me, hadn't been used in a year. The first error message I got was the inks were old and had to be replaced. I have now replaced them and the error message now is "Ink System has failed. Unable to copy . . .

Error number: 0xc18a0406. It says to turn power off and then on again. I have done that several times. The technical support said to remove all the inks while the printer was still on but unplugged and then return the inks. I did that and no change. I heard from another forum to clean the ink cartridge heads. I don't know how to do that. Tell me what I should do? The inks I am using are HP inks specifically for this printer.  Do I need to set up the printer to my computer with the software? I have not done this. For the time being, I do not care about the wireless set-up. My old printer I could just set up the USB cable from my computer to the printer and it would print my documents. Will it work the same with this hand-me-down printer??

Thanks,

Concha2

Hi,

Please follow steps from document below to clean cartridges

http://support.hp.com/in-en/product/HP-Photosmart-C6100-All-in-One-Printer-series/1153695/model/1153...

Printer can be setup using USB cable and able to print

Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

Can I use a Q-Tip and bottled water to clean the cartridge head?

I cleaned the cartridge heads and restarted the printer, unplugging then plugging directly to a wall outlet and then inserting the back connection to the printer. When the printer started up I get the same error message. What do I do now?
