photosmart b110a
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Since getting a win 10 laptop I have been unable to install the printer software.

I downloaded the software package from HP but when I try to install it I get a fatal error message to do with

msi scan. When I check the error info sent to HP it thinks I am using a win 8 server!

I am able to print by connecting the printer to the usb port of my netgear router and using the netgear ready share app.

But without the printer software I am unable to scan.

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Photosmart b110a printer. I understand that you are getting fatal error message to do with msi scan error message, and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well,

  • Unregister and reregister the Windows Installer Service.
  • Reregister the ATL.DLL file.
  • Temporarily enable full permissions for the Program Files folder.
  • Turn off select services.
  • Remove HPZi files.
  • Perform a level 3 uninstall.
  • Reinstall the HP software.

Click here and refer to the second link in the document to perform these steps.

I hope it helps and if you feel I have answered your question and concerns,

Please mark this post as a solution accepted and Kudos would also be appreciated.

Cheers.

Hi,

thanks for replying.

I was able to perform all of the steps except the level 3 uninstall as there was no util file.

Ran the software again but it still failed.

The specific error message is:

Fatal error during installation

Error 1935. An error occured during the installation of assembly

'Microsoft.MSXML2R,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken=

"6bd6b9abf345378f",version="4.1.0.0",type="win32"'.

Hi @bikerchic44, I am the @Chimney_83. It looks like you were interacting with @sandytechy20, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.

Thanks for the reply and trying the suggested steps.

Please try the procedure to uninstall the printer mentioned below.

Uninstall the printer from programs and features from the control panel. (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)

Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it.

Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.

Click on print server properties.

You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there, if any.

Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.

Restart the PC.

Once the PC is booted the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,

Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.

It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files, ignore them).

If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.

Restart the PC again.

Download the latest full feature driver from www.hp.com/drivers and install it on the computer.

Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

Let me know how it goes.

thanks for the help

I tried all of that.

I was unable to delete the registry keys.

The message just said unable to delete registry key.

Tried the instal again but got the same error when it tried to instal 1 of 8, printer driver.

even the uninstaller fails on step 9 of 11.
