In the end I returned the product to where i bought it. I got my money back. I think HP should rethink this product, cause there are too many people having issues with it.

A year later after topicstarter I steped into the same sh. Probably got some old revision of manual 'cause there is nothing about this plastic film. Official support said this is OoW case and I have to replace whole top unit by my own costs.

It's so stupid situation that i start to think HP made this design flaw for a reasone - to rise some more money.

To fix the problem I made a template and printed out and cutted a spare foil (which fitted well) of a transparent film for a printing. If someone need the template file.

But I think protect film for a tablet (as someone wrote here) will suit better.

I bought a demo hp MFP M277dw from a Staples store.  No box, no directions. Obviously already unboxed and set up by store employees. ADF automatic document feed jammed when I tried it. Spent an hour cleaning parts and trying to get it to work before discovering this discussion. Thank you everyone. I had clear plastic cling sheets (saved from packing material used to prevent scratches on  a new refrigerator). I hesitated to use clear packing tape because it might leave sticky residue.  The cling sheets work perfectly. I placed it from the edge of the flat bed scan window, over the entire ADF scan window and over the edge of the case. No jams, no streaks on the copy. The cling sheet stayed in place when I opened the scan lid.
