printer will only print pictures, not text

HP Recommended

My printer has been working well since I got it and then just in the last 2 weeks it stopped printing text.  It will print pictures and image files, but not text.  For example, I tried to print copies of my new insurance cards from a pdf file.  It printed the picture part of the page (the logo, the box that the information is supposed to be in, etc.) but not any of the actual text information.  It's so strange and I can't figure out what to do.  If anyone has any ideas I would be most appreciative.
