Laserjet 8710
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

    Just bought a new printer 8710.

   On my old printer (6500), I could continue to print beyond the note that a cartridge was empty.   Usually there was lots of ink left in the "empty" cartridge.   Thus, I could get lots of extra printing out of "empty" cartridges.

   Now the 8710 will not allow me to continue printing until i know the cartridge is empty.

   Is there a way to override this limitation and allow me to take the chance of printing until the cartridge is truly empty?

The Officejet Pro 8710 has a sensor that determines when the ink is depleted, in addition to the counter that gave an estimate like your Officejet 6500 did.  The printhead is separate and can be damaged if the printer is allowed to run without ink.  You will need to replace the depleted cartridge(s).

Thanks Bob for the reply.

My concern was with the fact that the cartidges on my old computer had lots of ink left in them when the message flashed that they were empty.   Since they are so expensive, I would like to NOT throw out cartridges with usable ink in them.   How accurate is the sensor?

I have nothing more to say on this subject. See my post above.

@Toaste64

  I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details). If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
