scanjet 4370

I rarely use this scanjet 4370 but it always works perfectly except for one particular problem. The computer is using win2k and is not online, I use it for printing and scanning. Now the problem: I cannot seem to scan coloured documents for example black print on a blue background (tax document!) but all other normal b&w documents scan properly so I am sure the settings are all correct.

When I scan the document (set for color, black or greyscale) the scan starts and produces the colored image in the preview screen for a moment but as soon as the scan finishes  the preview image disappears. I've tried zoom, different colour settings, black threshold etc etc but nothing works the image has definitely gone. A final scan to pdf is blank of course. Trying to scan such documents as pictures also fails.

Actually I have just checked past scans and found that this coloured document has scanned OK previously so it must be some incorrect setting but I cannot find it! Hope someone can help.
