scanner error -- 8, [(1,0,-2147221502)]

scanner gives error code noted above.  however on the hardware page in Windows XP pro under imaging device it shows the F4580 with an exclamation point and when checked further states that it is an error 39 and drivers not found.   i have removed and reinstalled the software many times with no change in the situation.

this happened once before and a reinstall solved the problem but this time it does not.

i did uninstall the 4580 printer and installed an old Canon scanner that i had but now i get the same error with it.

seems to be something more serious than i wanted.

any suggestions?

You said that it shows an exclamation point next to your printer in the Device Manager correct?  If so, right-click on the printer and select Scan hardware for changes.

Re: scanner error -- 8, [(1,0,-2147221502)]

I am using XP Pro SP3 and I have the same error. The HP Officejet C4500 G510n-z  works fine, except the scanner because of said error report, which also shows "(Error 39)". During the installation it says that there was a problem with some files that are missing or corrupt. However, it works perfectly in other computer, so the problem is in the PC, which is a Dell Dimension 8400n -z. I have tried all procedures and nothing works.

Unfortunately I have not found any solution on-line. In one reply, somebody said to check for hardware changes clicking on the printer in Device Manager. I did, but then nothing happened nor showed up on the screen.
