I printed off the instructions to scan from my new desk jet 3630 all in one. Followed said instructions and now getting a message saying something like " work in progress; complete work first." I have no other 'work' pending and have hit the cancel button to clear anything that could be and still I cannot continue to try scanning. I am very frustrated. Wht can I not just phone HP help desk and actually have someone talk me through the process. I am 64 years old and want simplicity. Thanks everyone.

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I understand that you have a new HP DeskJet 3630 All-in-One Printer. I read that the printer is unable to scan. There's a message saying "work in progress, complete work first." If you hit cancel, and try again, it does not scan. Not to worry, I assure you that towards the end of the post the printer will be able to scan.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Is the printer able to make a copy? If yes, then it indicates that the scanning hardware is fine.
  • What operating system are you using (Windows or Mac)?
  • Have you installed the drivers from the disk or have downloaded them from the HP website?

In case you're using the Windows operating system then please download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor software. This is a free tool for Windows to help resolve issues with the printer drivers.

Please reply with this information and I will be able to assist you further.  Cheers!
