trying to install psc 1401 under windows 7 .

When I go to HP site I download the driver & install for PSC1400 series.  On my install it does not show PSC1401 - i ended up trying PSC1402 anyway ... but during install it shows a window that says " your device can not be connected"  .  Not sure this is driver issue - but, will assume so - where can I get driver for  PSC 1401 ?   One other strange item - I know my printer and usb is connected because the HP Solution Center let's me scan a document from the PSC1401.

Re: trying to install psc 1401 under windows 7 .

well, I am going to assume you have not been around HP very long.  There is an PSC 1401 I have the printer and have been using it for the last 4 years .  As a matter of fact I have the driver installed under my windows XP it it identifies it as a  PSC 1401.

Hi dcf,

That is strange when i looked on the support.hp.com site it didn't show the printer. Anyway below is the link to the Windows 7 driver for this printer.

Let me know if you need additional assistance?

Re: trying to install psc 1401 under windows 7 .

well, that did not work.  You gave me the same driver download I already said I tried for PSC 1402 ??

Little disappointed in this support.  When this did not work I called HP support on the phone and they

said there is no support for a PSC 1401 in Win7 .  Why would HP have printers out there they do not

support with a driver ?  The printer is only 4 (maybe 5) years old - I would expect HP would expect that

printers last that long - so, why not support PSC1401 under Win7.  Am I getting incorrect info ?

Re: trying to install psc 1401 under windows 7 .

Hi dcf,

Sorry to hear you are having issues installing the printer with this driver. The link I provided is the only driver we have for this printer on Win 7.

What error messages are you getting when attempting to install the printer?

If you install this printer on a different computer running Win 7 do you have the same issues?

Re: trying to install psc 1401 under windows 7 .

Hi dcf,

Have you tried using a new USB cable or USB port on the computer?

How long is the USB cable you are currently using?

Do you have any USB hubs inbetween the printer and computer?

Re: trying to install psc 1401 under windows 7 .

it is not the cable - if I unplug from this laptop and i plug it into my old laptop (with the Win XP) the printer works fine.  it is a standard 6 ft usb cable direct from printer to my laptop.

Re: trying to install psc 1401 under windows 7 .

Hi dcf,

Ok, it appears that the operating system is contributing to the installation issues on this Win 7 computer. I am not 100% sure that our diagnostic utility will work on this older printer, but there is a chance it could resolve the communication issues you are seeing.

HP designed a quick and easy tool that diagnoses and resolves many printing, scanning, and connectivity problems: The HP Print and Scan Doctor. HP recommends that you download and install the Print and Scan Doctor any time you need to troubleshoot a problem with your HP printer from the link below.
