Hello Davetech,

Are these the steps you are following to calibrate and clean the printer?

Automatically clean print cartridges

To clean the print cartridges
1. Open the printer Toolbox.
2. Click Clean the Print Cartridges.
3. Click Clean, and then follow the onscreen instructions.
CAUTION: Clean print cartridges only when necessary. Unnecessary cleaning
wastes ink and shortens the life of the cartridge.
Calibrate print quality

To calibrate print quality
1. Load Letter or A4 unused plain white paper in the paper tray.
2. Verify that both a black and a tri-color print cartridge are installed in the printer.
3. Open the printer Toolbox.
4. Click Print Quality Calibration.
5. Click Continue, and then follow the onscreen instructions

Printer Toolbox

To open the printer Toolbox
1. Open the Printer Properties dialog box.
2. Click the Features tab, and then click the Printer services button.
The Toolbox is displayed.

Hello Davetech

You should also be able to find the Printer Toolbox in HP Solution Center.

  1. Open HP Solution Center
  2. Click Settings
  3. Click Printer Toolbox

I am not sure why you can't find it under Printing Preferences anymore but see if the above instructions still work.

Don't forgot to say thanks by giving "Kudos" to those that help solve your problems.

I'm having this problem as well. I'm still looking for the exact solution but I've figured out that it has something to do with the HP printer software not being associated with the printer I'm trying to print to. I've re-located and re-installed the printer a few different times and I believe I need to find my original HP printer software disk and re-setup the printer or something... It's quite a frustrating thing just to get my printer toolbox and services back. 😕
And now I can't find my disk. Hopefully this software is on the HP website??
