@aca2775 Greetings from the HP Community!
I recommend you try the copier as a stand-alone device without a computer and check if that works:
- If it doesn't work, this could be a hardware issue,
- however, if the copier works and yet, the print out from the computer doesn't work, which OS do you use with that printer? is it Windows, Linux or Mac?
let me know how that pans out,
And the answer to the above question will help me, help you!
Keep me posted, and if any of the above questionnaires helped resolve the issue,
Mark this post as an "Accepted Solution".
Good luck.

I got the things sorted with expert intervention remotely, he assigned manually the printer for wifi print at the end including checked and tested the usb driver to initiate the software installation, updating the bios and a few here and there hardware setup. Then ask me to print a test page. Its about 4 hours job, and my lesson learnt for me after this is setup the printer before buy it at the HP mobility. Seriuosly, not a lay-man can do the installation. TEDIOUS!!!

My printer was working fine until a Windows 10 update to 1909. I used the Print and Scan Doctor tool to trouble shot the issue. Went thru the whole process; Finding the printer, check the network, and installing the software. But, the end I got a fatal error. The tool asked me to submit the logs and it will find a solution to the problem. It did find a solution but still didn't work. Also I noticed that the tool mentioned Windows 8.1. I have Windows 10 Pro. Is there any chance I can talk with a real tech support person from HP?

@HugoMoreno Your best bet is to completely uninstall the printer using the 'scrubber' for your particular HP printer. If you have a registry cleaner program; e.g., Advanced Uninstaller Pro; use it. Reboot the system, and install the latest installation s/w from HP for your printer. I realize HP doesn't update their s/w because they're lazy.

Hi @PETEY64
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with your query.
HP Officejet 6978 All-in-One Printer is AirPrint compatible and it is also compatible with macOS 10.15 Catalina. You may use AirPrint driver to install the printer on the MAC or use the HP Smart app to print and scan.
Click here to get the app for the printer.
Note: HP Easy Scan is not yet compatible with macOS 10.15. Alternatively, you may use the HP Smart app or Apple Image Capture to scan from your MAC.
If you would like to upgrade, kindly check the new printers available on HP online store. Click here.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

@Bayhound Do you live in proximity? If so, download it and burn it to a CD or stick and leave it at the door (unless you're in a state where there is 'shelter-in-place' in effect). Does he have a cell phone? Go to the HP site, download the file to the cell phone, transfer it to the computer, and install. Go to the HP support site and get on the telephone with a support person.

I've gone through the steps to re-name 2 of the drivers as "old," uninstalled the printer from my laptop and turned off the printer, as well as restarted my laptop. Then I downloaded the drivers from the HP website - it still won't print, now it says there is an error trying to print. 😞
